General Summary:
This is an officer level risk management position in Unum’s National Client Group which focuses on the large employer group employee benefits market. This role operates as a key member of the underwriting leadership team that is collectively charged with achieving the business’ financial and strategic plans. The position also includes people management responsibilities leading a team of underwriting professionals.

Responsibilities:

Maximize underwriting’s talent through effective coaching, candid feedback, and facilitating opportunities for team members across the organization to grow professionally and personally both inside and outside the organization.

Collective ownership of overall financial results that requires effectively managing the attainment of short term goals while operating with a constant focus on achieving the organization’s broader and long-term objectives.

Operate with a high degree of autonomy making decisions with significant financial impact while owning the results that aggregate under your broad span of control.

Maximize outcomes for the organization by personally challenging the way business is done and proactively bringing solutions forward while fostering a work culture where change is embraced, diversity and diversity of thought is expected, and taking smart risks is encouraged.

Develop, drive, and own key strategic initiatives through the stages of design, implementation, and execution while constantly seeking feedback and measuring the value added to the business.

Required Skill Set:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 10 years of insurance, risk management, or related experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility over that time and a strong preference for those that have people management experience.

Strategic and critical thinker with a demonstrated ability to utilize data and analysis to not only make effective day to day business decisions but also to recognize trends and set direction for the organization. Must have a high degree of comfort operating with ambiguity when making these decisions.

Ability to quickly build and maintain strong balanced partnerships with key stakeholders with whom the strength of the relationship will be key to success.

Highly proficient communicator who can easily flex their style to a wide variety of audiences to most effectively deliver messages, position decisions, influence appropriately, and negotiate positive business outcomes.

Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills that allow one to juggle multiple priorities and quickly pivot as business needs rapidly change while always delivering results.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$114,100.00-$205,400.00
