The Senior Lab Scientist is responsible as a member of the project team, for the preparation of catalytic materials to develop new or improved commercial catalyst products. This position will support our High Throughput R&D Center within the Catalyst Business Unit in Palo Alto, CA.
Responsibilities You will be responsible for:
Preparing materials in the laboratory to discover new catalysts and processes that deliver value to the Company's businesses.
Synthesizing catalysts using conventional and high-throughput techniques and equipment and a variety of preparative methods. Developing new HT workflows for catalyst preparation.
Planning experiments in collaboration with the technical project team and conducting equipment operational programming.
Maintaining analytical equipment and assisting in method development.
Characterizing catalysts using BET, XRD, LS, SEM, etc.
Testing or assisting in testing catalytic materials in various reactors.
Analyzing and presenting data using appropriate specialty software packages such as DOE, visualization, and statistical analysis programs.
Communicating results internally via reports, presentations, and informally.
Generating IP and assisting with patent preparation.
Assisting in the evaluation and selection of projects in collaboration with technical colleagues.
Operating a safe laboratory by working closely with the site safety committee and coworkers.
Directing technical/research assistants when applicable.
Requirements Seeking a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field with 1-5 years of industrial experience in heterogeneous catalysis; we would also consider a Masters in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field with a minimum of 2-6 years of industrial experience in heterogeneous catalysis.
Skilled in the synthesis of solid catalysts using a variety of preparative methods.
Knowledgeable in the use of automated laboratory hardware and software, and in data analysis and reduction software and techniques.
Experience with analytical methods such as XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, BET, IR, TPD/TPR, HPLC, GC, MS, etc.
Experienced in conducting team-oriented catalyst research.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written and the ability to work in a team-oriented fast-paced environment.
Compensation: $85,000-$105,000 Salary range
Salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to individual competencies, education/professional certifications, experience and performance in the role.
This position offers an 8% (Target) Annual Company Based Bonus.
