Come join us #WorkforBoca GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Performs skilled technical and mechanical work and is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of complex heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration, equipment; employee is responsible for ensuring all work is performed in compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements; work is performed with a considerable amount of independence and may lead and/or instruct unskilled or semiskilled assistants, but confers with supervisor when necessary; work is periodically inspected during progress or upon completion for workmanship and general compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.Essential Functions ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC/Refrigeration Systems, i.e., motors, air compressors, control valves, exhaust fans, air handler units, condenser units, electronic and pneumatic controls, water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers, centrifugal chillers, and cooling towers. Constructs, maintains, and installs sheet metal and fiberglass duct work.Understands how to work with and program frequency drives.Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs energy management wiring and equipment.Checks and calibrates electronic, pneumatic, and electric temperature/humidity control systems.Performs preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.May provide 24-hour emergency on-call support.Test's refrigeration and air conditioning equipment for refrigerant leaks; Cleans and replaces filters.Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs window units, DX split systems and package units.RELATED TASKS: Provides material list.Cleans and maintains mechanical rooms and equipment.Maintains records and processes work orders.Orders parts, supplies and equipment.Provides estimates for work being proposedPerforms related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of the mechanical trade and the Florida Building Code.Knowledge of Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) laws and refrigeration recycling.Knowledge in the care and use of hand tools, power tools and equipment.Knowledge of common hand tools.Ability to accurately estimate time, material quantities, and cost.Ability to work from sketches, schematics, and blueprints.Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.Ability to work with building automation systems.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.Ability to maintain records and reports.Ability to work overtime as directed.Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Requires high school degree or GED equivalent. CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARYSEIU Employees ANNUAL LEAVE: Shall accrue prior to an employee attaining permanent status in the classified service, and may be used after six (6) months of employment at the sole discretion of the Department Head, but it shall not be paid out upon resignation or termination unless the employee has attained permanent status (one full year). The maximum accrual is 360 hours.0 to 5 full years 8 hours per month5 to 10 full years 10 hours per month10 to 15 full years 12 hours per month15 years and over 14 hours per monthCASH OUT OF ANNUAL LEAVE: Employees who have attained permanent status shall be permitted to cash out up to forty (40) hours of accrued and unused Annual Leave, either in a single lump sum payment or two or more partial payments, each fiscal year., each fiscal year.SICK LEAVE: 8 hours per month. Any hours in excess of 960 will be paid off annually at 50%. Upon retirement, employees with a minimum of 5 years continuous service will receive 50% of sick leave balance. Employee contributions are required for Employee Dental and Vision Plans, as well as Dependent(s) Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans.CONTINUOUS SERVICE BENEFIT: Continuous Service is determined on December 1st of each year. Payment is issued during the month of December based upon years of service as follows:5 to 10 full years $600 annually10 to 15 full years $800 annually15 full years and over $1,000 annually RETIREMENT PLANS: The two pension/retirement options are listed below: The option to enroll in a Defined Contribution Retirement Plan. The Defined Contribution Plan will not require a mandatorycontribution on your part. The City will contribute seven (7%) percent of your annual base wages to this plan. The vesting period forthis plan shall be one (1) year from your date of hire in the classified service, which coincides with your one-year probationary period. An option to enroll in a Defined Benefit Plan option available to you that will have a ten (10) year vesting period with a multiplier of 2.00% at normal retirement and a mandatory seven and three-quarters (7.75%) percent contribution. The two (2) options will be fully explained to you prior to your selection.Optional: 457 Deferred Compensation Savings Plan is available.HOLIDAYS: 14 per year: 11 recognized holidays and 3 floating holidays which are allocated for the fiscal year starting October 1, to all 8 hour per day employees. Employees hired between October 1 and March 31 shall receive 3 floating holidays. Employees hired between April 1 and September 30 shall receive 1.5 floating holidays. Non-task employees working 10-hour days receive 10, 10-hour paid holidays but do not receive floating holidays.FUNERAL LEAVE: Up to 3 work days - In State Up to 5 workdays - Out of StatePERFORMANCE EVALUATION: A performance review(s) is given to new hires during the first year of employment and an annual review on their anniversary date. Every employee is evaluated on their anniversary date.
