The Washington, DC office of SmithGroup is looking for an Architectural Designer with a focus on Historic Preservation to join our team.

Working with us, you will: Apply professional architecture skills and interdisciplinary professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of historic architecture, architectural conservation, building preservation, stabilization, rehabilitation, and reconstruction procedures and methodologies planning and managing historic preservation projects.
Conduct historic research, on-site surveys, and documentation of historic resources.
Prepare condition assessments, preservation plans, master plans and historic structure reports or similar work with historic resources.
Prepare national register nominations and historic tax credit documentation.
Prepare architectural drawings for all project design phases, including proposal presentations, concept, schematics, design documents and construction documents.
Support compliance efforts with local, state and federal agencies and support NEPA projects across the firm with Section 106 efforts.

An ideal candidate has: At least 5-7 years of architectural experience with a demonstrated interest in the preservation and treatment of historic buildings; investigating, documenting and evaluating historic buildings.
A professional degree in Architecture and graduate degree in historic preservation or related field or comparable experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated effectiveness in working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team setting.
Knowledge of the project delivery process and ability to assist design efforts through all project stages, including collaboration with the client, contractors, and internal team.
Construction administration experience with a focus on construction observation and on-site management and coordination.
Some project management experience preferred.
LEED credentials preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.

SmithGroup's competitive compensation and benefit package is designed to meet the needs of a diverse staff. The anticipated salary range for this position is $68,000 to $84,000 annually, at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for this position. Additionally, an employee in this position is eligible for a performance-based bonus on an annual basis. Our comprehensive benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, flexible spending account options and voluntary insurances. We provide an opportunity to invest in your future through our 401(k) program with employer matching and a continuing education reimbursement. We offer 3 weeks of paid time off within the first year of employment, with the option of purchasing additional time off, 8 paid federal holidays, and parental leave benefits.
