Description

SUMMARY: The Assistant Building Engineer is responsible for completing work orders, grounds maintenance, painting, caulking, HVAC, plumbing, drywall, electrical and completing maintenance on buildings as needed. Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Engineer will perform general preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems to include, but not limited to plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, Fans, Coils, and HVAC.
  • Perform general preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.
  • Repair doors, ceilings, hand railings, drywall, and floors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties, including changing filters, oiling motors, replacing light fixtures, inspecting/adjusting belts, replacing bearings, aligning shafts and annual inspections as directed by manufacturers.
  • Inspect building systems including fire alarm, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
  • Maintain the building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.
  • Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility and ground maintenance.
  • Inspect buildings, ground and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives as related to building operations and practice safe work habits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of two years of related experience and/or trade school training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred two years building maintenance experience

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of all building systems operations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Working toward Stationary Engineers Apprenticeship SMA or obtain once on-the-job
  • Valid Driver License is required.
  • Some knowledge of energy management systems, techniques, and operations preferred.
  • Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • General understanding of HVAC, electrical and building automation systems.
  • Ability to understand and give general instructions in standard situations.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • May require shift work, nights, overtime and/or on-call duties.
  • Stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pump, tools, ladders) and ability to safely install rigging/lifting device.
  • May be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments).
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
