Description
Position Summary:
The Cline School of Music at North Greenville University is taking applications for an adjunct instructor/collaborative pianist.
North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. All NGU professors are expected to be orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith, are role models in their piety and ethics, are regularly reflecting upon how their faith influences their discipline and are willing and able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ. Faculty are expected to teach in accordance with, and not contrary to the university's "Statement on Human Flourishing." Applicants should have a background and/or professional experience in piano instruction and accompaniment. Candidates must have a Christian commitment and the ability to integrate the Christian faith with traditional coursework.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach private piano lessons
- Provide accompaniment for student lessons and performances
- Prepare for course(s) by organizing and becoming familiar with student material
- Prepare lesson plans and course material as required
- Effectively organize and present subject matter to students
- Objectively assess students for academic performance
- Ensure security of assessment tools and confidential documentation
- Effectively utilize Blackboard learning management system
- Appropriately maintain student records, grades, and attendance to ensure accuracy
- Meet all university deadlines for syllabi and grade submission
Physical Requirements
- Hearing: Hear well enough to teach lessons
- Dexterity: Ability to demonstrate technique for students
- Mobility: Teach classes, move between classrooms.
- Talking: Teaching private lessons.
- Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This position is a part-time position in the Cline School of Music and reports first to the director of piano studies, and then to the Associate Dean of the School.
WORK SCHEDULE
The adjunct work schedule is flexible and can be scheduled to limit the trips to and from campus. Generally, lessons are scheduled during the working hours of the university (M thru Th 8:30to 5:00, and F 8:30 to 2:00), but hours outside that may be possible.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in piano or a related music field
- Preference will be given to applicants holding a terminal degree
- Experience and a passion for teaching
- Evidence of scholarly potential
- Supports NGU's mission statement and core values, commitment to a Christian lifestyle and character in keeping with biblical model
