General Definition of Work
Performs work responsible for performing technical duties in the operation of a solid waste collection vehicle for the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
•Operates automated refuse/recycling truck on an assigned route.
•Maintains all vehicle records and reports.
•Performs preventative maintenance on equipment
•Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
•Assists in the operation and maintenance of the Transfer Station and Recycling Center when
needed.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
•High school diploma or equivalency and three (3) years experience required.
•Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class "B" or better CDL with air brake endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
•One (1) year experience in Solid Waste and/or Recycling or related field operating Solid Waste and/or Recycling or similar vehicles and equipment.
Salary per hour $18.95, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation - accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave - accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance - Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee's expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee's expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan - not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $28.26 hourly/$58,789 yearly.
Before final appointment, successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a drug test, background investigation and pre-employment physical.
