We are seeking skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as a Geospatial Information System Analyst . As a GIS Analyst , you will have a crucial role in helping Public Works build and scale geospatial information systems that support operations, maintenance, and planning for Redmond’s long-lived infrastructure assets.
We are on a journey to establish a world-class asset performance management program that achieves American Public Works Association (APWA) accreditation and ISO55000 standards by adopting a long-term perspective and applying consistent stewardship aligned with Redmond 2050 to realize maximum value over the total life cycle of our long-lived infrastructure assets. As a member of our Asset Performance Management (APM) Team, you will work across our Utilities, and Mobility and Infrastructure divisions to address customers’ needs to visualize our assets and plan for Redmond’s future.
Responsibilities Develop and maintain data documentation for City's core GIS data sets.
Work with City staff to develop complex analysis and reports.
Produce high-quality maps for City Departments.
Collaborate with City Departments on developing spatial analyses in support of their program areas.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of data entry.
Analyze the GIS application needs of client departments and perform application development projects.
Provide information and technical assistance to users regarding the GIS system and other related issues.
Knowledge of and Skills in Working knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of geographic information systems.
Technical knowledge and programming skills using ArcGIS Desktop (including ArcInfo, ArcEditor, and ArcView), Python, Visual Basic, SQL Query and other programs/tools used by the City.
Technical knowledge of spatial analysis, data generation, and mapping.
Advanced math skills.
Skills in querying and maintaining large computer database files; coordinating input of information into data systems; maintaining, updating, and producing data and maps.
Physical Demands Incumbents are expected to have the manual dexterity to manipulate keyboards and other computer hardware. Incumbents must listen, speak, read, and interpret information from written sources and on the computer. The incumbent may spend a significant amount of time retrieving information from the computer, requiring repetitive motions of the hand and wrist. Some lifting may be required.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Some travel is required among various city facilities as well as some outside travel.
Education and Experience 4-year degree in geography, engineering, geology or related field.
4 years experience in using GIS for map production and analysis.
1-2 years experience using GIS data capture.
1-2 years experience developing and using relational databases, preferably enterprise relational databases.
Licenses and Certificates Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards.
