Medical Physicist Assistant
Scope of Position
The Medical Physicist Assistant in Radiation Oncology works under the supervision of the Chief Physicists or his designee and works on specification, acquisition, and commissioning of all radiation generating equipment, calibration and QA oftreatment machines using departmental protocols and acquisition and maintenance of all dosimetry and health-physics equipment. Reviews radiation treatment charts, performs treatment plan second checks, brachytherapy planning, and radiosurgery clinical coverage.
Position Summary
Under direct supervision of Chief Medical Physicist or his/her designee, provides entry level professional medical physics services at the Department of Radiation Oncology (or its outreach/affiliates) of the OSU Wexner Medical Center. Evaluates and interprets medical radiation treatment prescriptions. Collaborates with medical providers in the design and modification of effective radiation treatments for patients; oversees and monitors treatment plans developed by Dosimetrists, and participates in development and execution of equipment monitoring, quality assurance, calibration, and safety surveys. Provide technical assistance in the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy; monitor patients; maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety; perform clinical research as required. Follows established processes and treatment and qa standards. Develop procedures for the department.
Minimum Qualifications
MS degree in medical physics or similar fields from a CAMPEP accredited program. All junior medical physicists are required to have acquired a strong foundation in basic physics as documented by a master's in medical physics or similar fields.
