Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Sociology Department at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The focus is open, but we particularly encourage people whose teaching and research concentrate on Race & Ethnicity, Queer Studies, or International issues.

Because we are a small department, we seek someone who can teach general courses like Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems, core courses like Theory, Methods, and Inequality, as well as courses in their own areas of specialization. We collaborate regularly with other programs like Media & Culture, Gender Studies, Comparative Philosophy, Psychology, and Political Science, so interdisciplinary applicants are welcomed.

We are seeking a colleague who is dedicated first and foremost to students and teaching, yet someone who is dedicated to service and research and committed to Randolph's diverse and inclusionary environment.

  • Incorporating undergraduate students into their research when possible

  • Teaching in Sociology or closely related fields (Gender Studies, African American Studies, etc)

Required Education and Experience

  • PhD or ABD in Sociology or closely related field (Gender Studies, African American Studies, etc.)

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2+ years of undergraduate teaching experience
  • Record of research, presentations, and publications
