Job Description:

Our work depends on Linux/Systems Engineer Sr Advisor joining our team to be responsible for the implementation, support and maintenance of all aspects of the projects Linux infrastructure. Project infrastructure includes virtual and physical servers and software resources. They must have strong, firsthand technical expertise in a variety of configuration automation, deployment, and continuous integration technologies and the proven ability to fashion robust solutions that can keep pace with software development.

HOW A LINUX/SYSTEMS ENGINEER SR ADVISOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • As a member of the Infrastructure Linux Team, this candidate will also be responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of all Linux infrastructure systems. The individual will work with network and systems engineers as well as application developers to install, configure, and maintain systems. Activities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage day to day operations of systems by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.

  • Assist application teams with creation and configuration and deployment of Linux systems and platforms.

  • Work with other teams to deploy new software and improve existing systems

  • Project based development, implementation, and documentation of Linux systems and capabilities (Security enhancements, Resource Monitoring and Notification, Dev/Ops Automation, etc.)

  • Perform initial troubleshooting of issues and work with other teams, as necessary, to efficiently resolve issues.

  • Provide regular updates on project status through established team communication tools.

  • Participate in and conducting applicable accreditation support (scans, automation, auditing, etc.

WHAT YOULL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • The position requires an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance.

  • The position requires Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Systems Engineer.

  • Monitor health and capacity of and troubleshoot Linux system resources using Nagios and iLO or iDRAC and VMware host console.

  • Assist multiple development teams with recurring operations and maintenance activities (host creation, system performance issues, H/W issues, general Linux administration support, Centrify/AD support, etc.)

  • Coordinating and escorting vendors into the Data Center to replace failed hardware components on Linux systems

  • Project based development and implementation of new Linux hardware and software capabilities (Security enhancements, Central Logging, Resource Monitoring and Notification, Dev/Ops Automation, etc.)

  • Participating in and conducting applicable accreditation support (scans, automation, auditing, etc.) of Linux systems

  • Providing general Linux system administration guidance and support to multiple development teams (disk management, account creation, design reviews, etc.)

  • Create, manage, and update Linux servers in the cloud environment

  • The successful candidate must be able to work well both in a team setting and individually on project based tasks and have direct experience in the following:

  • Prior experience as a Unix/Linux Systems Administrator of Linux, preferably RHEL/CentOS (installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting)

  • Prior experience developing Puppet modules for server builds (Kickstart), and maintenance automation

    • Prior experience integrating automation with TFTP, DHCP and DNS.

  • Prior experience with Centrify and Active Directory integration and management of Linux groups, accounts and servers

  • Prior experience with one or more scripting tools: Puppet, Shell, Perl/CGI, Python

  • Prior experience working with Linux in a cloud environment

  • Managing and monitoring Linux server resources in a VMWare/VSphere environment

  • Building and maintaining all Linux Virtual Machines

  • Experience with automation tools, such as Puppet and Ansible, CGI/Perl and Python

  • Direct experience with, including hardware maintenance, firmware updates to HP DL Series Servers, Dell PowerEdge R630/730 Servers and iLOM/iDRAC usage

  • Work with a team to build, administer, and secure cloud environments, including hybrid environments, in a repeatable and reliable manner

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and deploy new cloud tooling and infrastructure that extend or replace existing capabilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team of software engineers, data scientists, analysts, project managers and other engineering groups

  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements introductions systems and platforms

  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement

  • Write and update technical documentation such as system documentation, training materials, processes, and procedures

  • Work alongside other engineers on the team to sustain and advance our organizations capabilities

  • Demonstrated hands on experience configuring cloud VPCs, subnets, route tables, and gateways

  • Demonstrated experience scaling applications written in Java, Python or other programming languages with Cloud Native technologies

  • Experience deploying code in AWS utilizing solutions such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation

  • Experience working with cloud native technologies, Infrastructure as Code (IAC), and/or Serverless cloud technologies

  • Extensive experience using both puppet and ansible in both cloud and on-prem environments

  • Experience securing cloud environments

  • Demonstrated experience achieving customer accreditation of cloud solutions for highly sensitive system

  • Extensive experience as a Linux Systems Administrator of Linux, preferably RHEL/CentOS (installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting)

  • Prior experience with one or more scripting tools: Shell, Perl/CGI, Python, Ruby

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to communicate technical information both orally and written

  • The position is on customer site.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Prior experience with SQL querying of a relational database, such as MySQL

  • Prior experience with Nutanix and HPCC technologies

  • Prior experience with Python and Ansible automation of system administration and configuration tasks

  • Prior experience setting up Docker clusters using Swarm and or Kubernetes

  • Prior experience with HP Apollo 4000 and 2000 systems architectures

  • Prior experience with git for Infrastructure code management

The likely salary range for this position is $157,250 - $212,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
