We are currently seeking an experienced Network Security Engineer to join our Technology Reliability Engineering & Operations (TREO) group to play a key role helping defend the enterprise from malicious actors, while proactively looking for other risk areas to help mitigate. The work done has real impact enterprise-wide, and it is truly valued throughout the organization.
The Technology Reliability Engineering and Operations (TREO) organization is a key information technology group supporting our valued internal and external customers. TREO aligns up through the Chief Technology Officer and provides IT services such as hosting, security operations, application, voice, business intelligence infrastructure, collaboration services, and end user support. We focus on both operating and innovating our services to ensure continuous efficiency and modernization. As a Network Security Engineer, you will focus on planning, designing, optimizing, auditing, and troubleshooting Zions perimeter security with an emphasis on Palo Alto firewall infrastructure. You will improve the protection of our domains from current and future threats, vulnerabilities, and attacks. In short, you will help oversee the firewall infrastructure and all its facets.
The Network Security Engineer will:
- Manage firewalls, using Palo Alto's Panorama, to include monitoring, troubleshooting, upgrades, policy management, and cleanup activities
- Develop and document procedures to encourage knowledge transfer amongst team members
- Plan, design, and engineer solutions to meet operational challenges and lead future enhancements/features roll-out
- Challenge the status quo to identify and define efficiency and waste reduction solutions
- Integrate firewall automations with other teams and products to eliminate manual tasks
- Participate in an on-call rotation including nights and weekends
Technical Skills and Qualifications:
- Must have 6+ years of firewall administration experience (Palo Alto, Check Point, Fortinet), with at least 4 of those years heavily involved in Palo Alto Panorama architecture and feature implementation (more than just basic policy management)
- Technical familiarity with OSI model, networking concepts, architectures, and tools, including network traffic analysis, functionality of network switches, load balancers, routers, proxies, VPNs, and firewalls required
- Sound understanding of Windows/Linux operating systems and scripting languages (python preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Professional security certifications preferred
- Banking industry knowledge preferred
- Automation experience with Palo Alto a huge plus
Basic knowledge in any of the following is a plus:
- Programming/Python/Scripting
- Integration Fabric
- Cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure, Terraform, Ansible)
- CI/CD Pipeline
- Site Reliability
- Virtualization/Containers
A combination of education and experience may meet qualifications.
Flexibility and Location: This position has a hybrid work from home schedule with a minimum of three days per week in the office at the Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT.
