Job Summary:This position is responsible for providing on-highway truck preventive maintenance repair services to respond to customer needs in a positive, caring, and timely manner. Must build rapport with customers through technical expertise and quality service on equipment so, that service value is received. This position requires a self-motivated, thoughtful individual with a high energy level who can work alone or with others in a shop environment. Hours: Monday through Friday 7 am to 5 pm.The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.Essential Functions:Troubleshoots and diagnoses basic engine malfunctions and failures and prepare to provide repair servicesPerforms basic engine and related equipment repairs on trucks and trailers with supervisionUses computers and related software to assist in diagnosing and reprogramming enginesCompletes documentation for service reports, timecards, parts requisition, and returnsInterprets and utilizes information from operating, maintenance, online resources, and service manuals/bulletinsOperates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificatesAdheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulationsMaintains all company equipment, tools, and the vehicle in good, clean, and working orderCommunicates job progress to supervisor and customer as neededWorks overtime as required by workload and customers' needsProjects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearanceCompletes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety trainingWorks safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standardsRequires regular and punctual employee attendancePerforms other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Demonstrates the ability to improve time in the disassembly, inspection, determining parts required, and reassembly of repairsGeneral knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenanceKnowledge and proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and On-Highway Truck electronic systems diagnostic toolingOperation and control skills of On-Highway Trucks & TrailersProblem-solving and troubleshooting skillsVerbal communication skillsExceptional skills in customer serviceExcellent time management and organizational skillsAbility to follow logical troubleshooting proceduresAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to operate a conventional forkliftAbility to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair & overhead craneAbility to operate an On-Highway Truck on public roadsAbility to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objectsAbility to read, write, and understand informationAbility to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentencesEducation and Experience:A high school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of 1 year of on-highway truck service required CDL - Class A or B preferredASE - Medium/Heavy Truck Certification one or more preferredSupervisory Responsibilities:NoneTravel:Limited travel or overnight staysTravel to other stores that require help during times of heavy workloads may be expectedAdditional Requirements:Must own and maintain the necessary tools to efficiently perform the jobValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordPhysical Requirements:A significant amount of time spent standingConstant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterityCommunication with customers and constant communication with co-workersRoutinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect workMust be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigueBe able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipmentLifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lbOccasional kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, reaching, and balancingAscends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipmentWork Environment:Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical partsMay be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidityFrequently works in an enclosed vehicle or equipmentRequires wearing common protective or safety equipmentExposure to high noise levelsWorks in extremely bright or inadequate lightingExposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipmentExposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stingsDisclaimer: Please note that the above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
