Job Description

Performs general clerical and receptionist duties supporting the patient care unit, including preparing, compiling and maintaining records in nursing unit.

Job Responsibility

  • * Greets, interviews and registers patients or their representative.
  • Verifies patient, guarantor, subscriber and insurance information and enters same into department computer system.
  • Completes required forms for patient registration.
  • Obtains, secures and witnesses required consents/signatures.
  • Provides information regarding Advance Directives, Patient Bill of Rights and Notice of Privacy Practices. Completes questionnaire regarding Advance Directives for the patient's medical record.
  • Attaches vouchers to lab specimens and arranges transport to lab, as required.
  • Performs final chart review, incorporates loose sheets and ensures that the entire chart assembly is completed on discharge.
  • Facilitates patient transfers to Emergency department, as required.
  • Answers phones courteously, responds to requests for information, directs calls or takes messages, files, photocopies, faxes information, maintains bulletin boards, etc.
  • Performs receptionist duties for clinic. Reviews and maintains daily attendance log. Informs clinical team member of pending appointments
  • Photocopies and maintains supply of pertinent forms specific to unit.
  • Reports all equipment needing repair and initiates work orders.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year related registration/clerical experience with public contact, required.
  • Typing 35 wpm, required.
  • Good interpersonal skills to deal courteously with patients, families, physicians and all levels of hospital personnel, required.
