Job Summary
As the Environmental Technician(S1) you Under leadership of crew chief or skilled crew member, train to perform removal, enclosure, encapsulation, and/or other methods of eliminating and controlling hazardous material or hazardous environmental conditions including asbestos and lead. Must follow IOSHA, EPA, and IDEM regulations. You will respond on 24-hour basis to water leaks/floods, chemical spills, accidents, and emergencies. This position may involve exposure to heights, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, close spaces and lifting requirements up to 80 pounds.

Must follow IOSHA, EPA, and IDEM regulations. You will respond on 24-hour basis to water leaks/floods, chemical spills, accidents, and emergencies. This position may involve exposure to heights, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, close spaces and lifting requirements up to 80 pounds.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:
As the S1 Environmental Technician you will need:
- High School Degree or GED
- Some experience in construction or water restoration, but prefer up to two (2) years
- Must successfully pass an accredited asbestos worker exam every year to conform with Indiana
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) regulations.
- Certifications in either mold remediation and water restoration, or asbestos and lead preferred, along with knowledge of the terminology, functions and operating procedures of negative air pressure units, high pressure units, high pressure sprayers and various hand and power tools and equipment.
- A valid Indiana Driver's license is required
As the S2 Environmental Technician you will need the above and below:
- Three (3) years of experience in a similar position in either asbestos, mold, construction, or water restoration, or a combination of the four areas
- Must successfully pass an accredited asbestos worker exam every year to conform with Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) regulations
Skills needed:
- Good verbal and written communication skills required
- Must:
- have good work organization skills and the ability to create and maintain accurate records
- Basic mathematical calculational skills are required
- be able to climb ladders and scaffolds up to 80 feet and work in tight spaces
- be able to lift and carry 50-80 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally
- be required to assist in hanging drywall and replacing ceiling tile after floods
- be able to wear a tight-fitting respirator
- pass a yearly physical examination
- HEAVY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Preferred:
- Knowledge of campus buildings and locations
- Knowledge of the terminology, functions and operating procedures of negative air pressure units, high pressure units, high pressure sprayers and various hand and power tools and equipment
