This position is responsible for work in the construction and maintenance of a utility system. This employee performs the more advanced and skilled maintenance work learned over a period usually requiring less supervision.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS(Those functions actually required to perform this position, the removal of which would fundamentally change the job. These are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)•Assist mechanics in the maintenance and repair of water production and wastewater treatment plants, potable water wells, pump stations, reclaimed water facilities and lift stations.•Open and close trenches.•Perform required potable water well meter readings and/or well levels.•Perform required auxiliary generator exercises.•Clean and maintain wet wells.•Assist mechanics with record keeping and parts inventory.•Report to Chief mechanic any equipment, machinery, building, grounds or other area of attention needed.•Install, replace or repair meters and valve boxes.•Perform building and grounds maintenance at water plant, wastewater plant, lift stations, pump stations and wells.•Repair and maintain tools and grounds maintenance equipment.•Assist plant operators and other divisions when required.•Perform hydrant flushing and testing of water distribution systems.•Operate dump trucks, trucks and other heavy equipment, such as backhoe, mowers and large vehicles.•Install and test well meters.•Install and repair water lines.•Assist in installation of lift stations and replacement of lift station suction lines.•Attend work promptly and regularly.•Perform related work as required. These additional duties may be representative of tasks typically performed by those in a lesser or more advanced job grade.This position is part of the City's Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation. Any additional compensation, above the normal weekly salary shall be outlined by the City Manager in the City's Emergency Management Activation and Emergency Declaration. Failure to appear to perform emergency management assignment and to work assigned shifts as scheduled by the City's Emergency Management Director or individuals designated by the City Manager to assign such functions will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES(There are no formal supervisory duties required under this position.)QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsEducation and Experience•High school diploma or general education degree (GED).•Two (2) years experience in maintenance work and/or training•Certifications, Licenses, and Registrationso Florida Commercial Drivers License Class B.o Must possess either Water Distribution System Operator License Level 3 (formerly Voluntary Certification Level C) as defined per FAC, or Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification Level C.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities•Knowledge of equipment used in utility systems to produce and treat drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, produce and distribute reclaimed water.•Knowledge of the materials and methods used in the maintenance and repair of water, wastewater and reclaimed water utilities systems, as well as, the tools and equipment used to repair these systems.•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work related documents.•Ability to write correspondence, memos, and other documentation in standard English text.•Ability to effectively present information in written and oral format to individuals.•Ability to comprehend and apply principles of basic mathematical concepts related to this position.•Ability to follow and interpret instructions furnished in written and oral format.•Ability to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions that are in accordance with laws, ordinances, and established principles.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
