The Biology and Microbiology department at SDSU is currently seeking a dependable, self-motivated individual to support the department as a Program Assistant I.

Job Responsibilities: Provide high-level administrative management and professional support to the Department of Biology and Microbiology. Responsibilities include assisting the department head and assistant department head with program processes, accreditation reporting and data management, supervision of office and lab staff, first point of contact for departmental faculty, staff and students as well as serving as the department liaison with college and university administration, Academic Shared Service Center, alumni, donors, industry stakeholders, and academic support.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Computer systems and software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Database development and maintenance
  • Academic curriculum, courses, and forms
  • Event and activity coordination
  • Supervision techniques
  • Customer service practices

Skill & Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate information both in a written and verbal manner
  • Display strong attention to detail
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, alumni, donors, and stakeholders
  • Learn and interpret University policies and procedures
  • Train and provide guidance to staff and student workers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Banner
  • Strong time management and productivity track record
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven organization and attention to detail
