Job Description
Position: Preschool Teacher's Aide
Reports To: Program Supervisor
Location: Arrowhead Community Center
Status: Part Time Class 2
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
IMRF: Non-Eligible
Days: M-F
Hours: 8:45am-11:45am, approximately 15 hours per week
Closing Date: Until position is filled.
Duties:
Work with preschool teachers to prepare materials to be used in class, assist teachers in classroom when needed, sub for teachers when needed, supervise students in your care
Qualifications: Prior experience in a classroom and working with children
General Statement of Position:
The Preschool Teacher's Aide is responsible for assisting the preschool teachers in their daily classroom operations, preparing materials, substitute teaching and inventory of supplies
Qualifications:
Prior experience in a classroom and working with children is preferred.
Representative Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains a positive community image for the District.
- Strives to maintain a positive environment among the District's organizational divisions.
- Actively supports the Safety Policy and the District's established loss control program, including training, safety rules, and developing ideas for the prevention of incidents, while providing a safe environment for Park District staff members and patrons.
- Supervises and ensures the safety and wellbeing of the children at all times, being alert for the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
- Implement the daily class program
- Decorates the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children's artwork, and other aesthetic and educational items that are age appropriate.
- Keeps classroom, storage rooms and bathrooms clean, neat and orderly.
- Prepares materials to be used in class
- Supervises students to and from the restroom
- Attends at least two seminars/workshops per school year.
- Keeps Program Supervisor informed in advance of program needs.
- Reports to preschool supervisor any special needs or problems with individual children or parents.
- Maintain open lines of communication with supervisor, staff and parents.
- Attends regular staff planning and evaluation meetings.
- Provides a balance of play and an education within the program.
- Treats each child & staff member with dignity and respect.
- Notify supervisor 48 hours or more in advance of supply needs
- Maintain a high level of customer service.
Representative Marginal Job Functions:
- Working with other departments and staff
- Maintain facility cleanliness and organization
- Being knowledgeable of all park district events and programs
- Assisting customers with questions not related to your department
- Physical set up of tables and chairs for program
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ensure participants complete a program evaluation
Position Considerations:
- Potentially stressful situations associated with children's programming particularly any behavioral problems that may occur. Must be able to demonstrate good judgment when dealing with staff, participants and parents.
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time through the course of daily activities. Participating with the children in active play, which may require sitting on the floor.
- Potentially exposed to the elements when taking the children outside for play or field trips.
- Must demonstrate good judgments, appropriate level of response, and logical thought process in the execution of the duties and responsibilities.
