Job Description:

MEI has a job opportunity for a Mechanical Designer with a background in Plumbing Design to be an integral member of our Mechanical design team. The scope of projects will include data centers, industrial buildings, offices, and other high-profile construction projects. This role will be highly collaborative amongst MEI staff, clients, vendors, and external disciplines. MEI is committed to providing opportunities for professional development and growth. This role will be based in Austin, TX.

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering team to design plumbing systems for various projects, ensuring functionality, efficiency, and compliance with regulations.
  • Create detailed plumbing plans, layouts, and schematics using CAD software.
  • Select appropriate materials and equipment for plumbing installations, considering factors such as budget, project requirements, and sustainability.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing plumbing systems, identify potential issues, and provide recommendations for improvements or upgrades.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate plumbing designs with overall building plans.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to analyze hydraulic systems, pipe sizing, and pressure requirements.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and regulations related to plumbing design and ensure designs meet all applicable requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of plumbing design experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or Revit
  • Familiarity with codes, standards, and best practices
  • Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Top-notch organization, attention to detail combined with excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • CPD certification
  • Experience in green building or energy efficiency projects, such as LEED, ENERGY STAR, or USGBC
  • PE License
