Extruder Operator -3rd shift
Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a 3rd shift Single-Line Extruder Operator in our Turners Falls, MA facility. Operator will set up and operate a single head extrusion line to jacket a range of wire, cable, braided products according to specifications and established procedures. Targeted job training provided for all skill levels starting on day 1 and throughout your career at Judd Wire.
Starting Hourly Rate: $19.17 per hours + $2.00/hour 3rd shift differential
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work from orders, requisitions, various sized wires to properly mix various components and chemicals to obtain and maintain stability with regard to footage, lengths, wall thickness, proper die and leader sizes, Work in BPCS system.
- Set ups are exacting and require placing and adjusting die in extruder, obtain and maintain proper temperature, speed and feed. Ensure adequate cleaning of die.
- Use vacuum apparatus to transfer compounds into feed hopper and/or machine. Check for required temperature, proper speed of take up reel or spool, proper tension on wire, efficient operation of work, proper cooling of extruded material. Set machine into operation. Operate marking/printing machine as specified to apply identification number, stripe or legend to extruded wire
- Perform visual checking of work and take samples according to specifications and instructions. Operate testing equipment and perform tests according to specifications including; concentricity, OD, elongation, adherence. Compute percent concentricity, elongation, other as specified. Label spools with shop order number, conductor size, wall size, color and direct to next operation. Include SPC records with shop order packet.
- Monitor operations on a continuous basis and as needed make adjustments to water trough, speeds, feeds, and other variables to meet quality and quantity parameters.
- Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctioning equipment, unusual conditions to supervision. Observe all safety rules and regulations. Maintain equipment and work areas in clean and orderly condition.
- Cross-train and the availability to work overtime and some Saturdays.
- Perform other similar or related duties as assigned or instructed by supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements
- High School diploma or GED and basic math skills required. Be a team player, enjoy detailed work and willing to learn!
- Use of judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to set ups and operations of multi-head/multi-line extruders (at times simultaneously) to ensure that products meet quality specifications, quantity and schedules within the limits of recognized or standard methods or procedures.
- Position requires moderate + physical effort consisting of frequent moving, of average to heavy weights, lifting 50 + lbs., pushing, pulling large reels etc.
- Long periods of standing
- Continuous mental and visual attention to detail, manual coordination of diversified duties, also repetitive work, requiring constant alertness or activity.
- Working conditions may expose employee to noise, fumes, dust, hot and cold temperatures etc.
