Mesa Associates is seeking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our Power Generation West division with fossil and hydro power generation design projects. Experience with design, procurement, and construction process in multi-discipline power generation projects is required. Familiarity with PG&E, SCE, Calpine, NCPA, BOR, USACE, or other power generation providers in the state of California is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert knowledge in code standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of mechanical design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA).
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite). Additional software skills including Bluebeam, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Vault, Plant3D, Inventor, ReCap, Solidworks, FARO Scene, and other 3D rendering programs preferred.
- Experience with Pipe Stress analysis software including Caesar II and AutoPIPE preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
Education/Experience/Licensure:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- 6-10 years engineering experience in the power generation or plant process industry. Utility maintenance or EPC experience across piping systems, valves, and turbines preferred.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) in California
Responsibilities:
- As a fully competent Engineer, independently evaluates, selects and applies engineering principles, practices, techniques, procedures, industry codes and standards to projects.
- Perform intermediate complexity engineering designs including analysis, calculations, research, and equipment selection
- Develop mechanical engineering design package documents including design notes, reports, flow modelling summaries, process flow diagram, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), sketches, plan drawings, section drawings, isometrics, pipe supports, pipe stress analysis, datasheets, details, BOM's, specifications, 3D model routing recommendations, and other related documents.
- Prepare sizing calculations and specifications for equipment including, but not limited to, piping, valves, pumps, filters, tanks, boiler equipment, condensers, and cooling towers.
- Prepare mechanical design packages for construction
- Quality review of mechanical engineering design completed by co-workers.
- Review construction contractor submittals and answer technical requests for information during their procurement and construction activities.
- Assist in the development of schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion
- Manages personal task assignments, and for designated projects manages assignments of other design team members to ensure adherence to scope, schedule and budget.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:
$82,000 - $145,107
The expected compensation is a range determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate, internal equity, work location, and hiring department's fiscal resources.
