**DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:**

The Photography Program at Sacramento State serves a diverse body of students who have varied interests in the contemporary practice and application of photography. We are dedicated to addressing photography both in the tradition of a critical liberal arts education and as a professional vocation. We seek to give students a solid footing in contemporary photographic techniques, histories, and theories, pushing students to explore the social and cultural implications of contemporary photographic practices.

Sacramento State is one of the 23 California State University campuses. Our program is part of Sacramento States Department of Design and is housed within the Universitys College of Arts and Letters. Our department seeks to prepare our students to have an impact in a creative environment that requires collaboration, adaptation, and leadership. We recognize that the world in which we live and work is shaped by an ever-increasing array of visual information. To prepare them for this rapidly changing world, our students learn to work creatively and to explore new possibilities in their respective disciplines by working collaboratively with peers from across our range of concentrations. In addition to our BFA in Photography, the Department of Design offers a BFA in Graphic Design, a BFA in Interior Architecture, and a BA in Design Studies. Our students complete work in each field as part of our shared lower division core before moving on to their area of specialization later in their career. For more information about our department:
