Broward House, Inc. is a not-for-profit community-based organization serving Broward County with a focus on HIV care and Prevention, housing, and behavioral health. This position, under the supervision of the Facilities Coordinator, performs electrical, plumbing, carpentry, A/C, door hardware and general maintenance duties in all Broward House owned properties.
In addition to other duties, this position will:
- Conduct daily/weekly tour of the premises and reports or attends to maintenance needs.
- Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned.
- Complete make-ready process of vacant apartments as directed by Facilities Coordinator, including carpentry, painting, basic plumbing, drywall and basic electrical tasks.
- Ceramic tile and laminate flooring installation
- Service air conditioning as required, preventative and repair maintenance.
- Complete grounds work as directed by Facilities Coordinator which may include picking up trash, power washing walkways, sweeping curbs and dumpster areas and maintaining landscaping beds and other common areas.
- Responsible for alerting Facilities Coordinator of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that has taken place or that may occur.
- Maintain a professional courteous manner with all residents, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees.
- Maintain orderliness, safety and cleanliness of properties
- Assure safety standards are used which comply with all company, local, city, state, and Federal guidelines.
- Perform Fire Safety equipment checks and assist with fire drills.
- Perform duties as assigned during hurricanes, or other emergencies.
- Prompt completion and submission of all paperwork involved with maintenance functions
- Special projects and other responsibilities as may be determined.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills/ Requirements
- Proficiency in the use of standard power and hand tools
- Basic math skills for measurement and computation
- Ability to read and comprehend assembly directions
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational training and/or certification preferred
- Minimum one year of on the job work experience
- Basic reading and writing skills
- Ability to communicate with a diverse population
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position can be very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing throughout the day. Physical effort may be required to push, move and lift objects over 80 lbs. Daily activities may include ascending or descending ladders and stairs, using feet and legs or hands and arms, raising or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling), bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position requires ability to drive and a balance between tasks and people skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors as well as outdoors. While performing the duties of this job employee may have exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat, wet and/or humid conditions. May also experience loud noise, and be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals and materials.

Must pass all drug and background screening, including a level 2 federal background and motor vehicle screening
Hours: Full-time 40/hrs. including rotating holidays.
