The Reality: This Isn't a 9-to-5 Job

Emergency Response Schedule:

  • On-call rotation: 1 day per week + 1 weekend per month
  • Storm season demands: Up to 12-hour days for 2+ weeks
  • Daily emergency calls requiring immediate response
  • Weekend and holiday availability required

If you need predictable hours or can't handle schedule disruptions, this career isn't for you.

Physical Demands - Be Honest With Yourself

You'll regularly:

  • Lift 50+ lbs of debris and equipment
  • Work in contaminated environments (mold, sewage, fire damage)
  • Crawl through tight spaces and damaged structures
  • Stand/walk for 8-12 hours in challenging conditions
  • Operate power tools in confined spaces

This work will test your physical limits. If you're not genuinely comfortable with demanding manual labor, look elsewhere.

Career Progression with Real Numbers

Clear advancement track with actual timelines and compensation:

Rookie Technician → $18-20/hour 3 - 9 months: Master fundamentals through intensive mentorship

C-Level Technician → $19-21/hour 3 -18 months: Can perform all of the hands on work for are core functions.

C-Master Sergeant → Up to $25/hour For exceptional hands-on experts who train others and can manage small projects

B-Level Technician → $23-25/hour Advanced technical skills, client communication, manage project documentation, run portions of project like controlled demolition and cleaning, then more into more communication and Complex project leadership, quality control

Project Manager → $65,000-85,000 base + 5-15% bonus Full project accountability, client relationships this higher base here are for commercial experienced project managers

Fastest progression on record: 6-8 months to Project Manager (exceptional performers only)
