JOB DESCRIPTION
The costume technician shall work alongside professional theater personnel. They shall perform each and every duty and obligation with due diligence and to the best of their knowledge, skill, judgment, and ability. The costume technician is expected to devote such amounts of time, energy and skill as may be necessary to perform the duties required hereunder. Hours are dependent on performance times and include some nights and weekends.
Opportunities, duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist Costume Designer in fittings, cutting, pattern making, stitching, and alterations.
- Assist in laundering and repair of costumes.
- Complete tasks and finish work as assigned.
- Assist Costume Designer to determine best construction techniques.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Any additional tasks as requested by the Costume Coordinator.
- Troubleshooting any issues that arise during the production run and replacing/repairing
costumes as necessary
- Working within predetermined budgets, submitting receipts and relative accounting records
in a timely (weekly) fashion
- Meeting with theater personnel, the Producer, the Board of Directors and/or others as designated by the Artistic Director
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in theatrical costume construction.
- Knowledge and expertise in costume repair and construction techniques and materials.
- Ability to work with a team and skillfully delegate work.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Awareness of safety issues and precautions
- Has appropriate physical condition to perform physical tasks such as moving costumes and fabrics
- Cultural competency. The ability to interact with people of different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds effectively with understanding and tolerance.
REPORTS TO:The costume technician reports directly to the Costume Designer and Artistic Director. Final employment authority is with the Producer and Artistic Director.
COMMITMENT:This is a non-union position running for the Saugatuck Center for the Arts 2026 Theater season. It is a temporary seasonal, full-time hourly position. It is possible to hold this position for more than one production per season.

COMPENSATION:Starting at $18/hour, plus 2 comp tickets, bus pass, company doctor support and gym membership. Compensated for overtime. Lodging available upon request.
